Spring / Summer 2017 In Review

As the summer is drawing to a close, I thought we should take some time to review the collections that have influenced our fashions over these past few months. Its been a very intriguing season that has encapsulated a wide variety of different styles whilst making them complimentary to the other; from the black studded leather from Coach, to the delicate, flowing dresses from Chloé, I'm going to be reviewing my favorites and the pieces I think have been the most influential from this past season.

Those 70's Vibes

Now what kind of spring collection doesn't have floral prints? This season had plenty of brightly coloured garments, the main trend running through these however was the colour yellow, it has appeared repeatedly in garments spanning multiple designers. I am not a fan of yellow personally but its really effective use in these garments has changed my mind on how it can be worn day to day, my favourite has to be the those gorgeous trousers from Balenciaga! And well of course you can't have a 70's style without sequins and Nina Ricci's collection had plenty of it alongside leopard print and shimmery velvet suits, perfectly demonstrating the 70's and early 80's at its best. Another style that was also demonstrated in Ricci's Collection and in Versace was the comeback of old school sports wear, we've seen the sportswear scene move into street fashion in the past few months and I hope its here to stay.

Re-Imagined Tailoring

This has definitely been the season of over-sized trench coats and jackets, paired with equally large bags by Balenciaga, this is probably one of the strangest looks to come out of this season whilst being one of my top favorites. Many other designers featured garments inspired by deconstructed tailoring such as the ensemble from Alexander Wang which appears to be a men's dress shirt and the loose fitting robe from Burberry. This style whilst being quite over the top also has an undertone of minimalism, the carefully created folds and seams reminds me quite a bit of Origami and gives the garments an overall sense of serenity.

Punk Is Back

Tassels and leather and studs, Oh My! This seasons most dramatic garments definitely walk on the edgier side with cutouts, opaque fabrics and lots of leather, top that off with exposed underwear or bras being worn over outer-layers and you get these incredible garments. The trend with leather this season seems to be either a very glossy finish or to go completely metallic both of which really catch your eye. I love the combination of feminine shapes with darker components it really works well together. Which brings me to my favorite dress the beautiful fringed dress by Dior, in my opinion it is absolutely stunning.
